DESCRIPTION
At last there is a solution available for traveling executives who need secure access to their corporate e-mail, without the burden of carrying a laptop. With Zaurus Mail Server, users get remote, password-protected access to Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Mail E-mail through their Zaurus. Users can send and receive messages, and even attach Excel spreadsheets and MS Word documents.

Zaurus Mail Server runs on a Windows NT 4.0 server and uses the built-in Zaurus mail client. Up to 64 modems per server are supported, allowing companies to economically deploy a modem pool to give large numbers of users simultaneous E-mail access.

Because of its single-server approach, ZMS provides the perfect way for a corporate MIS director to control E-mail access for a large number of remote Zaurus users from a central location. To access E-mail, users dial into the modem pool, sign on with a user ID and password, and proceed to send and receive their messages. The non-secure "profile" log-on used by Microsoft Exchange is superseded by ZMS, so even Exchange messages are now private and secure.

Why was Windows NT selected as the server operating system?
Although several operating systems were evaluated, we found that Windows NT offered the most secure, robust software which was best suited for running server-type applications. And, Windows NT version 4.0 has several features that work well to enhance ZMS capabilities.

What's special about Windows NT Version 4.0?
Windows NT version 4.0 supports Microsoft's Telephone Application Programming Interface (TAPI) standard. This standard allows ZMS to support any modem that is supported under Windows, and allows us to offer great flexibility to our customers. Also, modem and com port resources can be shared under this system among other applications, so there is no need for a dedicated pool that can only be accessed by ZMS. And finally, this version of Windows NT allows you to share resources with non-Zaurus PDA's, if necessary, for seamless integration with your E-mail system.
