Sharp Zaurus FAQs
Mail Access for Zaurus
Zaurus Access won't take your
password?
Although MS Mail and cc:Mail support user passwords up to 8 characters
long, the Zaurus Message application only supports passwords up to 7 characters
long. Therefore, if you have an 8-character MS Mail or cc:Mail password,
you must change it to be no longer than 7 characters. If your password is
less than 8 characters, check the FAQ below about logging
on -- sometimes this causes a message that looks like a password
problem.
Blank lines in the preview mail list on your
Zaurus?
If you access Zaurus Access to MS Mail or cc:Mail over a cellular
connection, you may see blank lines in the preview mail list on your Zaurus,
when using the "Preview messages" feature. This is because the Zaurus Message
application detected communication errors in the list information for the
associated message. To refresh the preview mail list (and hopefully display
all messages) touch FILTER and then OK on your Zaurus.
You cannot receive a message associated with a blank preview
mail list entry, and you can only receive messages which are listed before
the first blank entry.
Zaurus Access stopped working after upgrade to MS Exchange
client?
If you have upgraded from the MS Mail client to the MS Exchange client
(which comes with Windows 95), you cannot use Zaurus Access to MS Mail on
a PC running the MS Mail client to access your mail. This is because upgrading
to the MS Exchange client irreversibly modifies your MS Mail file (which
holds all of your e-mail), and therefore MS Mail can no longer read your
mail.
Users can't log onto multi-user version of Zaurus
Access?
-
Single-User Version
-
In the single-user version, the User Id that is set up in the
Zaurus Message application must be entered in the User page of the Configuration
Settings dialog. When connecting, Zaurus Access checks for a match and returns
a "User ID and password mismatch . . ." error if the two don't match.
-
Multi-User Version
-
In the multi-user version, this problem can be caused by any
of the following circumstances:
-
-
(MS Mail or cc:Mail.) The multi-user versions are limited to
20 users. The program will only allow the registration of 20 users, and only
registered users will be allowed to log on.
-
(MS Mail only.) The MS Mail client should not be run (but it
must be installed) on the same PC as Zaurus Access. If the MS Mail client
is run on the same PC, and any user is logged in via the client, users accessing
via Zaurus Access will not be able to log in.
-
(MS Mail only.) Users accessing MS Mail via Zaurus Access must
not leave MS Mail running and logged in on their own PC. MS Mail does not
allow multiple simultaneous logins to the same MS Mail account, so if the
user leaves MS Mail running and logged in on their own PC, Zaurus Access
will not be able to login to MS Mail on their behalf (the user will receive
an "Invalid user id or password . . ." error on their Zaurus.
Note that users should select "Exit and Sign Out" in the File menu of MS
Mail (on their own PC) to ensure that MS Mail actually logs out of the MS
Mail Post Office. It is common for MS Mail to remain logged into the Post
Office even after exiting the MS Mail client.
Setup program displays VIM.DLL error message?
If you receive an error message that VIM.DLL cannot be found
when you begin installation of Zaurus Access to cc:Mail, you should exit
the Setup program and re-install the cc:Mail client software. A proper
installation of the cc:Mail client will also install VIM.DLL.
CompuServe Companion
Need to download Compuserve Companion for Zaurus to your
ZR-5000 or ZR-5000FX with a 2MB Flash Card and CE-134TP cable?
The most common situation encountered is when the program appears

and is usually progressing normally, even though it appears to have stopped.
Use the procedure below to ensure that you are following the proper

Install the 2MB Flash Card.
-
Connect your link cable to the Zaurus and to a serial port

-
It is not unknown for PC Link to work poorly on a Zaurus with
weak batteries, so install fresh batteries or use an EA-23E adapter. DO NOT
USE A GENERIC 6 or 12 VOLT ADAPTER.
